Is the ASUS ProArt P16 the ideal laptop for creators?

Last July I had the opportunity to put the ASUS ProArt P16 (H7606) to the test, not in a lab or office, but in a real environment: a music festival — more specifically MEO Marés Vivas, where I work as the official photographer. That means shooting and editing hundreds of images under tight deadlines. The goal of this article is not to dive into technical specifications, but rather to share my hands-on experience and see if this laptop really lives up to the demands of a creative professional.

First impressions

At first glance, the ProArt P16 strikes the perfect balance: light enough to carry around all day, yet sturdy and solid, which is essential when you need a reliable machine outside the studio, often carried in a backpack.
The screen immediately stands out — sharp, vibrant, and trustworthy in terms of color. It’s a 4K OLED touchscreen, capable of reproducing 100% of the DCI-P3 color space and more than 100% of sRGB. Factory-calibrated and Pantone validated, it’s simply perfect for professional photo editing.

In the field

My workflow during festivals is usually intense: downloading memory cards full of RAWs, selecting, editing, and exporting images as quickly as possible. The ProArt P16 handled all of this flawlessly. Opening hundreds of files in Capture One was no longer a heavy task but almost instant.
Unlike my usual laptop — which is a good machine — I never felt I was waiting for the computer. With the ProArt, it was always the other way around: the laptop kept up with my pace with ease.
Normally, I avoid importing RAWs directly into Capture One because it takes too long to load, so I copy them to a folder first, then select what I want to edit, and only then import them into the software. With the ProArt, that bottleneck disappeared. I imported directly from the memory card into Capture One and was ready to edit straight away.
In short: the ProArt P16 made my entire workflow much, much faster.

Sound and silence

One of the things that surprised me the most was the sound quality. For those who also work with video, it’s astonishing: deep bass, well-balanced sound, something rarely found in a laptop this compact.
Listening to music while editing was a completely different experience than what I’m used to on a laptop. When I used it in the studio, editing images while enjoying my playlists was genuinely a pleasure.
And all of this came with one essential detail: silence. Even under heavy workloads, the fans were barely noticeable. Editing and listening to music without the constant hum of cooling fans made the whole experience so much better.

Designed for creators

The keyboard is comfortable, and the touchpad includes the ASUS Dial, which makes quick adjustments in editing software very easy. The pen and touchscreen add even more versatility for those who like to draw or make detailed retouches.
I worked with the laptop always plugged in to get the most out of the GPU, so battery life wasn’t a factor in this test.

Conclusion

After several intense days at the festival, the conclusion was clear: the ASUS ProArt P16 doesn’t just handle the pressure — it boosts productivity. Light but durable, fast yet quiet, powerful, and with unexpectedly impressive studio-quality sound.
In the end, I felt that this laptop didn’t hold me back — on the contrary, it pushed me forward. For anyone working with visuals, whether photography or video, it’s a tool that’s a genuine pleasure to use.

At the end of my test, I only found two drawbacks:

  1. The absence of a Kensington lock port. I know most manufacturers are moving towards software-based security and tracking, but I still like having that extra physical layer of protection.
  2. The second flaw is simple: the ASUS ProArt P16 isn’t mine. I had to return it, and with another festival coming up in just a few days, I honestly don’t know how I’ll manage without it. Nothing else feels the same anymore — and I’m convinced I’ll have to buy one, because working without it no longer feels like an option.
